Finn, Sawyer, and a Girl.

combat boots and flowers

There is a soybean farm up North, long owned by JH's family. To this hidden spot we escaped for a day and a night, with JH himself.

What an adventure it was!
We roamed around the golden patch in a husky all-terrain vehicle. My first time behind a wheel, by myself!

target shooting, ludington MI

We practiced target shooting with loud, actual weaponry, satisfying my secret dream to be more like my videogame characters.

The sound of our playing carried through the fields as we snipped at tiny, inanimate targets. Again I was reminded of my inability to wink properly.

crown of wild flowers

Finn and Sawyer gathered dry wood for our late afternoon fire, and I wandered.
They were sporting fancy hats, so I collected wild flowers and braided myself a late summer wreath, so as to not feel unadorned...

There was more than flowers to be found. Look, the scattering & gathering of life: an illustration of nature's savage love...

At night, we relished the fluff of marshmallows by the fire, and mapped the constellations. Then, we let our fears wander:

The light of the emerging moon turned us —we seemed like pale ghouls to each other.
We exchanged challenges: to head into the pitch black woods and stay there, for as long as we dared. Some came back with tales of strange sounds and presences...

We regained our spirits overnight, in the cabin.
The next morning we went back the way we came: through fields and sleepy towns, under the slender shadow of giants.
